Desert Safaris

The desert is where the trip turns into a story: a 4x4 across the dunes, a quad bike through the wadis, a camel caravan at sunset and a Bedouin camp under the stars. Our desert safaris run from Hurghada, Cairo, Fayoum, Marsa Alam and Dahab.

Why choose Desert Safaris

  • 51 desert safaris — 4x4, quad bikes, camels, buggies and jeep tours
  • The classic Hurghada trip: dune drive, camel ride and a Bedouin dinner with stargazing
  • Fayoum and Wadi El Hitan overnight camps under the stars
  • From $8 for a short camel ride to $1,300 for a multi-day expedition

Where the tours start

The safaris pick you up from your hotel in Hurghada, Cairo, Fayoum, Marsa Alam or Dahab — usually in the afternoon for the sunset and dinner camps, and in the morning for the long 4x4 routes. The vehicles are air-conditioned 4x4s and jeeps, and the meeting point is written on your voucher.

Best time to book

The desert is at its best from October to April: warm days, cool nights and clear skies. In July and August the afternoon heat makes the long drives tiring, so the camps and the shorter camel and quad trips are the better choice. The Fayoum and Wadi El Hitan routes need a jacket at night all year round.

Frequently asked questions

Closed shoes, long trousers and long sleeves — the sand gets everywhere, and the evenings on the dunes drop below 20°C in winter. A scarf around the neck protects your face from the sand, and the operators lend a jacket for the night camp.
Yes. The camels walk in a line with a handler next to each animal, and the children ride in the middle of the group. The minimum age is usually six, and the booking form asks for the age of every rider.
The evening camps include dinner, bread and tea around the fire, with water and soft drinks on the way. The morning 4x4 and quad tours have a stop at a Bedouin camp for tea and a simple meal, and the jeep tours have refreshments on board.
